New anti-bad faith domain service for EU trade mark applications

    09.07.2019

At the annual meeting of the International Trademark Association (INTA) in Boston, the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and EURid signed a declaration of cooperation on the establishment of a service for EU trademark applications. This is intended to prevent cybersquatting and malicious domain name registrations.

The opt-in service will allow EU trademark applicants to receive notifications of whether an identical domain name has been registered with their trademark. Since third parties often register domain names in the context of trademark applications, this service will notify TM owners of identical registrations.
