As announced in May of 2016 and further reminded in August 2018, the Cyrillic domain names with the Latin .eu extension will be phased-out, i.e. deleted, following a three-year phase-out period on May 31, 2019.
From June 1, 2019, only Cyrillic domain names with the Cyrillic .ею extension (Cyrillic.Cyrillic) will remain registered.
In order to avoid an interruption in their web presence as of June 1, 2019, registrants should only use their Cyrillic.Cyrillic domain name.
As part of the Cyrillic .eu domain names cloning process, a three-year script adjustment phase was launched, which allowed for both Cyrillic .eu domain names and their clones in .ею to coexist for a period of three years, ending May 31, 2019.
The phase-out of Cyrillic domain names with the Latin .eu extension is being done to follow the ‘no script mixing’ best practice for Internationalised Domain Names. The objective of the ‘no script mixing’ best practice is to avoid confusion about domain names that look similar.
