In September, the whole domain name world in France meets up at NDDcamp to exchange ideas, talk and reflect on our favorite market.

Organized by two historic figures in domaining, David Chelly and Philippe Franck, joined by Benjamin Louis from .alsace and Marc Olivier Bernard from the Boischaut auction house, this event deals with current issues in a very practical, no-nonsense way. In my opinion, this is the show where you’ll find the highest percentage of people who have, at one time or another, worked with SafeBrands, Team Internet’s brand protection company in France.

This year, BrandShelter will accompany SafeBrands to Paris to take part in this unique event. Together, we will be there to spread the word as a representative of brand owners, and our vision is, as usual, very pragmatic: there are now new tools available to stop abuse, if it occurs, but it’s sometimes easier to talk than to rely on legal arsenals. With this axiom in mind, any naming strategy is permissible.

However, it would be unfair to reduce domain names to a possibility of abuse. Since their introduction to the world of online commerce in the last century, these identifiers have gone through every state, and are now a well-recognized asset, while retaining their special appeal, at the crossroads between technology and intellectual property, all sprinkled with a zest of geopolitics.

Our approach and our advice to our customers have evolved over the last century, as we are keen to advise on possible and realistic actions, to fit in with the constraints of IP managers, corporate lawyers and reputation-conscious CIOs. And now, we’ll be bringing you the autumn 2024 version.

In an industry that increasingly favors paying to block names rather than reserve them, we are witnessing changing trends, and even a slowdown in the number of .com registrations, while the importance of national extensions is growing.

Matthieu Aubert will be moderating the round-table discussion, featuring personalities from all walks of life, and if you’d like to attend, we invite you to register for NDDcamp here

This could be the time to ask what to do with your old domain names which are no longer needed. Should you abandon them, keep them for life to protect yourself from abuse, or auction them off to raise the funds? You’ll be able to ask these questions, and even share your experience, as a microphone will be circulating.

We could even be talking about the end of the .com hegemony or, on the contrary, the peak of the value of a good .com. With a 0.7% drop in volume in 2023 versus 2022, we find ourselves in an unprecedented situation, and we may well wonder what to do next, whether you’re a domainer or simply looking for a good name.

As a sponsor of the event, we will be delighted to meet you on site. Over a cup of coffee, we’ll also be able to talk to you about a few surprises we have in store.
