.SX Sunrise is still ongoing
2012-05-31 | Julia Zang
The ccTLD of Sint Maarten, .SX, is in the Sunrise period by July 4, 2012. Up to this time, trademark owners are allowed to submit an application for the registration of a .SX domain name which corresponds to their trademark. An auction process will decide in the case of multiple applications for the same domain name.
Following the Sunrise, the launch process will go on with the Local Phase from July 5 to September 4, when the registrants are restricted to legal and natural persons already registered in Sint Maarten as of January 1, 2012. Domain names will be restricted to variants and derivatives of the (legal) names.
During the Landrush Period from September 5 to October 4, any interested party has the opportunity to apply for domain names that were not previously registered or applied for during the Sunrise/Local Phase, or otherwise reserved by the registry or restricted by the .SX policies. The General Availability Period will start on October 5, i.e. available domain names can be registered on a first-come, first served basis.
In consequence of the decision of the ICANN Board the Internet Assigned Names Authority (IANA) delegated the .SX TLD to .SX Registry SA in December 2011.
Sint Maarten, established in 2010, belongs to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and is the southern, 'Dutch Part' of the Caribbean island of Saint Martin.
