Application System for new TLDs still closed
2012-05-08 | Julia Zang
ICANN' s TLD Application System (TAS) remains closed. ICANN's news update from today still doesn't provide information on when the system will reopen for the final five application days.
The TAS was taken down on April 12, shortly before the application process should end. Because of a software glitch several applicants were able to view file names belonging to other applicants. According to ICANN, 105 applicants might have been affected by the TAS software problem; their file names as well as user names could have been viewed by other applicants. 50 applicants might have viewed file names and user names from one or more other applicants. At this time, 2091 applications were received. ICANN planned to finish the process of notifying these applicants by today, but the end of the notification process and the schedule for reopening the TAS was not yet announced.
Today, ICANN assured a full refund of the application fees paid by any new gTLD applicant that wishes to withdraw its application prior to the publication of the list of applied-for new top-level domain names.
