ICANN News: New gTLD registration system closed yesterday

Yesterday, the ICANN TLD Application System (TAS) was closed for anyone planning to apply for a new gTLD to register and submit a TLD application request. According to ICANN, there were 839 registered users in the TAS on March 25. These registered users can submit their gTLDs applications until April 12 at the latest.
We will know more on May 1 - the Reveal Day - when ICANN will publicly post all TLD character strings that have been applied for. But one thing is sure: we can expect quite a number of new TLDs in 2013.
